If you have not seen it yet, please visit the museum before 17 May 2026. Today, 23 April, we conducted our first guided tour for students from Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences, who are undertaking the “Master’s in Social Work as a Human Rights Profession” programme (Module: Global Social Work).

We explained why we had decided to start an ongoing archive of our work and how the idea for the collaborative exhibition with the museum had come about. We talked about the connection between our Saturday meetings, cooking together, sharing a meal and exchanging stories.

The curation process also involved running parallel workshops, which were based on stories of our early memories of food from our grandmother’s kitchens. These stories and recipes are documented in a zine called “Spiced Memories”, which is also part of the exhibition.

Some of the questions they asked related to how we fund our work. In this regard, we gave the example of how the river and bus tours operate, with a great deal of support in the form of people giving their time, energy and expertise. Another example was the house project, for which we have managed to solicit enough funds to purchase a property from one of our supporters.

Some members of the group were also interested in how we create a safe space where refugee women can share their experiences. We explained that fostering such spaces by covering travel costs for women coming from different parts of Berlin and Brandenburg, and by cooking and eating together helps to build an atmosphere of trust and empowerment.

The group was very impressed with the exhibition and showed great interest in our work, as reflected in the many thoughtful questions they asked. One of the students remarked that she was impressed, on the one hand, by the stories refugee women shared about their health and the discrimination they face within the healthcare system due to their status. On the other hand, she was equally impressed by their knowledge of plant-based medicine.

Unsere Ausstellung im Museum für Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg endet Mitte Mai.
